Carla Wilby is Co-Founder and CTO of Orca Fraud, a Cape Town-based real-time fraud intelligence platform purpose-built for Africa's mobile-first, emerging market payment ecosystems.
Carla holds a Bachelor of Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Cape Town and previously served as a Full Stack Engineer at Stitch, a leading African payments infrastructure company, where she built developer-friendly APIs and payment tools. She also earlier founded Zomila, an education technology platform.
Carla and her co-founder developed Orca's platform after conducting in-depth research with more than 200 fraud and compliance teams across regional financial institutions, identifying critical gaps in existing fraud detection systems. Her core thesis is that Western-trained fraud models fail in Africa's fragmented, informal payment environments.
As CTO, Carla architected Orca as a global platform from day one, embedding adaptive machine learning intelligence directly into live payment flows rather than layering monitoring on top. Her prior experience at Amazon Web Services as a software engineering intern and at Stitch gave her deep expertise in scalable payment infrastructure.
Orca now monitors over $5 billion in monthly transaction volume across 70+ countries, serving major banks, telcos, and payment providers across Africa. The company raised a $2.35M oversubscribed seed round led by Norrsken22, with participation from Enza Capital, OneDayYes, and CV VC Africa.
