Danyal Akarca is Co-Founder and CEO of Callosum, a London-based AI infrastructure company building systems software that dynamically routes AI workloads across diverse models and chips to optimise cost, speed, and performance.
Danyal holds a PhD in Computational Neuroscience and AI from the University of Cambridge, where he and co-founder Jascha Achterberg developed the foundational research behind Callosum, with published work appearing in Nature journals and prior roles at Imperial College London.
Drawing on principles from neuroscience, Danyal champions the idea that AI should mirror nature's intelligence by leveraging diverse, specialised components rather than relying on a single monolithic model or chip architecture.
Prior to Callosum, Danyal held positions at Imperial College London and the University of Cambridge, and the founding team also brings experience from Intel and Google DeepMind, reflecting deep expertise across hardware-software co-design and AI research.
Callosum has raised approximately $110M in total funding, including a landmark $100M seed round led by Atomico, marking the first-ever investment from the UK Sovereign AI Fund and one of the largest seed rounds in European startup history.
