David Barnard is Co-Founder and CEO of Luminary, an AI-native wealth transfer and estate planning platform purpose-built for financial advisors, trust companies, law firms, and accounting firms.
David earned a BA from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, before spending over 20 years at AllianceBernstein where he rose to become Head of Private Wealth Management, overseeing more than $100 billion in client assets.
Witnessing firsthand how labor-intensive and inaccessible trust and estate planning was for advisors and clients alike, David co-founded Luminary in 2021 alongside Joe Lonsdale, co-founder of Palantir and Addepar, to build the missing data infrastructure for wealth transfer.
Luminary raised a $9.5M seed round in 2023 led by 8VC, followed by a $22M Series A in 2026 led by Ten Coves Capital, with participation from BNY, Rockefeller Capital Management, and Fin Capital, bringing total funding to nearly $32M.
Luminary's AI platform transforms static estate documents into structured, source-verified data powering scenario modeling, tax planning, and multi-party collaboration, and is now adopted by leading wealth managers, attorneys, CPAs, and trust companies across the US.
