
David Cummings is Founder and CEO of Atlanta Ventures, an early stage venture capital firm investing in SaaS and subscription companies in the Southeastern United States. He is also the founder of Atlanta Tech Village, the United States' 4th largest tech hub, and lead investor in Calendly, the world's most popular scheduling app.
David earned a bachelor of science degree in economics from Duke University, where he built his first company, Hannon Hill, from his dorm room with a $20,000 investment from a professor. He taught himself to code in 8th grade and taught an entrepreneurship course to fellow college students.
David has founded 10 companies employing thousands of people, including Pardot (sold to ExactTarget/Salesforce for $95 million in 2012), SalesLoft, and Terminus. He was named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and one of the 100 Most Influential Atlantans by the Atlanta Business Chronicle after the Pardot exit.
Atlanta Ventures focuses on serving entrepreneurs in earlier stages (under $5M ARR) and typically leads or fills entire rounds with investments of $250K to $5M. The firm has invested in companies including SalesLoft, Terminus, and Calendly, which together are worth nearly $5 billion and have raised nearly a billion dollars in equity.
Atlanta Tech Village has been the birthplace of over 1,000 tech companies since 2013, creating over 8,000 jobs and generating over a billion dollars in investments. David is actively renovating one of the largest collections of historic buildings in downtown Atlanta to continue expanding the city's tech ecosystem.
