Dean holds a PhD in neural engineering from the University of Melbourne, where he won the Chancellor's Prize, and completed a Fulbright postdoctoral fellowship in neural statistics at Columbia University in New York.
With over 6,200 scholarly citations, Dean is a world-renowned neuroengineer whose work spans seizure forecasting, EEG diagnostics, and AI-driven brain signal decoding, bridging deep academic research with real-world commercialization.
Dean co-founded Seer Medical in 2017, where he built and scaled EEG diagnostic devices, AI, and services across Australia, the US, and Europe, before transitioning to a board role to focus on Fluent.
Fluent has raised AUD 2 million in pre-seed funding and is backed by the University of Melbourne's Genesis Pre-Seed Fund, Pacific Channel, and Galileo Ventures, with first-in-human implant operations planned for late 2026.
