
Demis Hassabis is Co-Founder and CEO of Google DeepMind, leading groundbreaking AI research to solve intelligence and advance scientific discovery. He also founded Isomorphic Labs and serves as a UK Government AI Adviser.
Hassabis earned a Double First in Computer Science from Cambridge University and a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from UCL, with postdocs at MIT and Harvard. As a child chess prodigy, he reached master standard at age 13 and coded the multi-million selling game Theme Park at age 17.
In 2024, Hassabis won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry with John Jumper for developing AlphaFold, which predicts protein structures. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society, received a knighthood in 2024, and has been named to Time's 100 most influential people.
DeepMind was acquired by Google in 2014 for 400 million pounds in Google's largest European acquisition, and merged with Google Brain in 2023 to form Google DeepMind. The company pioneered AlphaGo, which beat the world Go champion in 2016, and has published over 2,000 research papers.
AlphaFold has been used by over 2 million researchers in 190 countries and predicted the structure of 200 million proteins, all made freely available. DeepMind's AI reduced energy consumption in Google data centers by 40% and has been featured in Science's top 10 breakthroughs four times.
