Dr. Laxmidhar Behera is Co-Founder at Basil Health, an AI-powered digital health technology company, and serves as Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi, one of India's premier technical institutions.
Dr. Behera earned his PhD from IIT Delhi in 1997 and completed post-doctoral research at GMD Fraunhofer in Germany, before rising to Professor and Chair Professor at IIT Kanpur where he built a 25-plus year career in AI, Robotics, and Machine Learning.
He is a Fellow of INAE and Senior Member of IEEE, with over 280 publications and a co-authored textbook 'Intelligent Systems and Control' published by Oxford University Press now in its 5th reprint.
Dr. Behera has established industrial collaborations with TCS, Renault Nissan, ADNOC Abu Dhabi, and Bharat Electronics Limited, and has served as a Visiting Researcher at ETH Zurich and the University of Ulster UK.
His team at IIT Kanpur ranked 3rd in the Amazon Robotics Challenge 2017 among top 16 global teams, and he received the prestigious National Systems Gold Medal from the Systems Society of India in 2023.
