Aasa Feragen is Chief Scientific Officer at Prenaital and Professor at the Technical University of Denmark, leading research in Responsible AI for healthcare. She holds an MSc and PhD in mathematics from the University of Helsinki and completed postdocs at the University of Copenhagen and the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tubingen.
Aasa's research focuses on machine learning, medical imaging, and geometric modeling with emphasis on uncertainty quantification, explainable AI, and algorithmic fairness. She has been elected to the MICCAI Society Board of Directors and named an Innowoman by Innovation Fund Denmark in 2024.
Aasa built a Danish cross-university research group specializing in AI for fetal ultrasound that led to the foundation of Prenaital. She has published extensively in leading conferences including MICCAI, NeurIPS, and FAccT, and leads the EXPLAIN-ME research project.
Prenaital secured $1.57M (10M DKK) through BioInnovation Institute's Venture House program in 2025, following an initial $630K (4M DKK) in 2024. The company also received grants from Innofounder and Innobooster.
Prenaital's AI models can detect up to 35% more high-risk pregnancies than current clinical practice, potentially preventing 14,000 stillbirths and 10,800 preterm births annually across the US and Europe. The first product for fetal growth assessment is expected to reach market in 2026.
