Akshay Mittal is Co-Founder and CEO of StrainX Bioworks, a synthetic biology and precision fermentation company building high-value food, nutritional, and consumer ingredients for global markets from India.

Akshay is an IIT Delhi alumnus with a background spanning entrepreneurship, investing, and strategy consulting, including a prior stint at BCG (Boston Consulting Group).

Akshay believes biology is becoming a new manufacturing layer for the world, and that India's talent base, cost structure, and industrial ecosystem position it to become the fermentation capital of the world.

He co-founded StrainX in 2023 alongside Dr. Alok Malaviya, operating in stealth for over two years before emerging with a $13M raise led by Prime Venture Partners and Leo Capital, with participation from Good Startup, Sparrow Capital, and others.

Under Akshay's leadership, StrainX has built a 100-person team, achieved verified 10,000-liter fermentation runs, secured US self-GRAS for its first molecule, and is on track to scale to 100,000-liter production capacity.
