
David Shulkin is a physician and healthcare executive who served as the ninth Secretary of Veterans Affairs from 2017 to 2018, leading the nation's largest integrated healthcare system with over 350,000 employees and 1,700 facilities.
Shulkin earned his MD from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1986 and served as CEO of Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City and President of Morristown Medical Center before joining the VA as Under Secretary for Health under President Obama in 2015.
Shulkin was the only Trump cabinet member confirmed unanimously by the Senate (100-0 vote) and served as designated survivor during a 2017 State of the Union address. He founded DoctorQuality, one of the first consumer-oriented healthcare quality information platforms.
After being dismissed in March 2018, Shulkin founded Shulkin Solutions in 2018, a healthcare innovation consulting firm, and became a Senior Advisor with Alvarez & Marsal Healthcare Industry Group. He is author of the book It Shouldn't Be This Hard to Serve Your Country and serves on multiple healthcare company boards.
As VA Secretary, Shulkin oversaw care for 9 million veterans annually and implemented telehealth services for remote areas. He has been named one of the 50 Most Influential Physician Executives and One Hundred Most Influential People in American Healthcare by Modern Healthcare.
