Dr. Jeremy Minty is Co-Founder and CTO at Ecovia Bio, a Michigan-based biotechnology company pioneering sustainable biopolymers to replace synthetic plastics. He holds a PhD and BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan.
During his PhD work in Professor Nina Lin's lab, Jeremy developed a groundbreaking fermentation platform using synthetic microbial ecosystems to produce biobased fuels and chemicals. He co-founded Ecovia Renewables (now Ecovia Bio) in 2014 to commercialize this technology.
Jeremy is co-inventor of the EcoSynth platform and has published 13 research papers with 188 citations in synthetic biology and biofuels. His work on microbial consortia for cellulosic biofuel production has been recognized by the NSF and USDA.
Ecovia Bio commissioned the first polyglutamic acid production facility in the U.S. in September 2025 and closed a Series B funding round in February 2026 led by Pointe Angels. The company has raised over $11.9M across multiple rounds and secured partnerships with major industry players.
Ecovia Bio's biopolymers serve as biodegradable alternatives to synthetic polyacrylates in cosmetics, agriculture, and hygiene products, directly addressing microplastic pollution. The company's 20,000 square-foot Livonia facility supplies sustainable PGA solutions to customers globally.
