
Bert Monna is Co-Founder and CTO at Phosphoenix, a pioneering Dutch MedTech neurotechnology startup developing a wireless brain implant to restore vision for the profoundly blind.
Bert is a serial entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience growing startups in high-tech and deep-tech industries, with a background in electronics and technical systems engineering, and holds an MSc in Management from Nyenrode Business University.
Bert brings rare expertise that spans hands-on engineering and executive leadership, having scaled multiple ventures from inception through acquisition, and now applying that track record to one of the most complex challenges in neurotechnology.
He previously co-founded and served as director of SystematIC, and co-founded and served as CEO of Hyperion Technologies, demonstrating a consistent pattern of building and exiting high-tech ventures.
Phosphoenix has secured a competitive €2.5M EIC Transition grant for its SIGHTED neural prosthesis project, raised over $2.5M in total funding, and is targeting its first-in-human clinical study with a planned commercial launch by 2032.
